Welcome to ![]() The
Biggar Museum & Gallery
Step into the Past
The Biggar Museum and Gallery
opened on September 30, 1972, due to the
hardwork and dedication of a group of members from the local community.
First
located in the basement of the Lionel A. Jones Library, the museum
eventually outgrew its space and in 1993, Royden Donahue donated a
building that
would have allowed the museum to expand. Unfortunately, the building
was destroyed in 1994 by fire, but the museum board decided to carry on
with the move by building a new structure on the donated site. After
approximately three years of major fundraising and planning the Biggar
Museum and Gallery celebrated its grand opening on October 4, 1997, at
its new location at 105-3rd Ave. West.
The Biggar Museum and Gallery is more than just a museum. It not only houses a variety of historical artifacts that illustrate the town and district's history, but it also contains a gift shop and an art gallery that features a new show approximately every four to eight weeks. here is always something new to see and entrance is by donation to view the Biggar Museum and Gallery so everyone may come and enjoy! If you're interested in helping the museum with a donation, please read more about our Friends of the Museum Foundation. Today we can boast three part-time staff members, and an excellent group of dedicated volunteers. We are constantly training our staff and volunteers through various programs offered with our membership in the Museums Association of Saskatchewan. We have been active members since 1989 and are constantly making use of funding and support resources offered.
